"I think about light paths when I paint. Here, the emerging city lights take the quickest, most direct paths to our eyes. All the rest is sunlight finding its way to us, perhaps via the cloud tops of Venus or the limb of the Moon. Then there's all the light play through the sky of Earth, even though the Sun is below the horizon. Finally, where is the glow of the night side of the Moon coming from? If you were standing there in the lunar night, what bright blue beacon would you see in the sky catching the sunlight and illuminating the moonscape for all to see?"
